Kupu Whakataki/Introduction 2014 Room 9

Nau mai, haere mai ki te akomanga o Tua Iwa.

Welcome to Room 9 2014 Blog.
We have an eclectic cohort of students from diverse ethnic heritage.  Although, all students were born in Aotearoa/New Zealand we all have proud cultural links with various locations around the globe.  From the beautiful Island of Tonga, to the majestic Islands of Samoa, Niue, Rarotonga, Fiji and across the blue ocean to the Kingdom of Cambodia in Southeast Asia through to representation of tangata whenua from Aotearoa.

Our goal for 2014 is to learn as much as practicable about learning and in doing so we have fun.  Building respect, trust and self-belief on our learning journey we will develop a learning environment that both challenges and supports each and every one of us so that we can achieve our potential in the classroom, on the sports field, and on the musical, maths, spelling, speech and debating stages.

We welcome all positive communications from across the globe and also within our beautiful country of Aotearoa/New Zealand.  Room 9 is a Year 5 & 6 mixed gender classroom.

  1. Yesterday we had our first shared lunch and it was amazing. The richness and volume of the food possibly could have exceeded the NZ Curriculum nutritional guidelines. Something we will have to review. The upside was all the students enjoyed the lunch even inviting others students to enjoy the festival. Watch this space.

  2. This was a mixed week where Room 9 students excelled in leadership but somehow managed to mitigate the positives by making some poor choices when it came to homework. Overall the pendulum is still swinging on the side of the positives. We are now looking forward to the first of 4 noho Marae planned for this year. In addition we are leading into that period of assessments. Let the fun begin!

  3. This week we have been joined by three very energetic students. We welcome our new additions and look forward to forging a strong learning and sharing environment. Welcome Te Arani, Dallas and Gizelle. A special mention must go to a student who is demonstrating bucket loads of resolve, perseverance and dogged determination towards learning and being a well grounded student. Well done Christopher.
